Weather warnings and advisories to take note of on Thursday, 12 October 2023.
South Africans are advised to brace for severe weather conditions this Thursday, especially in parts of KwaZulu-Natal and the south-eastern parts of Northern Cape.
Impact-based warnings
A Yellow Level 4 warning is expected to be issued by the South African Weather Service for severe thunderstorms with heavy downpours and strong damaging winds in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).
Meanwhile, a Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms is also expected to be declared for several other provinces.
The Yellow Level 4 warning indicates that severe thunderstorms with heavy downpours and strong winds will likely cause localised damage to both formal and informal settlements, as well as structural damage to infrastructure like bridges and carports.
These extreme weather conditions will be primarily located in KZN, except in the extreme northern parts.
The Yellow Level 2 warning, on the other hand, is earmarked for the south-eastern parts of Northern Cape, south-western parts of North-West Province, western parts of Free State, and eastern parts of Eastern Cape.
Residents can anticipate strong damaging winds, large amounts of small hail, and heavy downpours that could result in localized flooding.
Fire danger warnings
Furthermore, extremely high fire danger conditions are expected to develop over the eastern part of the North West, raising concerns over potential wildfires.
