Independent South African journalism, published daily from Cape Town since 2019. Owned by the people who write it, funded by advertising, accountable in public.
What Swisher Post is
Swisher Post is an independent South African news publication. It was founded in 2019 by journalist Andile Sicetsha and is published by I WISH U WUD Publications (Pty) Ltd, a private company registered in South Africa (registration number 2019/597681/07) and based in Cape Town.
We have published more than 17,000 stories since launch. We publish every day, and our reporting is indexed in Google News.
We are not owned by a media group, a political party or an outside investor. What that means for our funding, and what it means for our coverage, is set out on our ownership and funding page.
What we cover
- News and Local: South African politics, service delivery, policing, courts and the decisions that change how people live.
- Crime: investigations, court cases and the long-running stories other outlets drop after day three.
- International: world news framed for South African readers.
- Cape Town Buzz: the city we report from.
- Sports, Movies, Viral News, Lifestyle, Technology and Gaming.
- Lotto and PowerBall: results, payouts and jackpots, published after every draw.
- Podcasts: our true crime and audio work.
Who writes it
Andile Sicetsha, founder, publisher and editor. Sicetsha has worked in digital media since 2016 and in news since 2018, when he joined the national title The South African as a senior content writer, reporting on crime, health, politics and national affairs on daily deadlines. His work has also appeared in Australian Times and Saffarazzi. He founded Swisher Post in 2019 and has edited it since. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Language and Communications from the University of the Western Cape. He is the person responsible for everything published here. Read his work.
Swisher Post is a small newsroom. The editor writes and edits most of what appears on the site. Where a story is written by someone else, it carries that writer’s name and it is edited before it runs. We do not publish news without a byline.
We also run the Swisher Post Internship Programme, which trains undergraduate writers in reporting, search-literate writing and newsroom production. Interns publish under their own bylines and are edited to the same standard as everyone else.
How we work
We verify before we publish. Every factual claim is attributed to a named person, an official statement, a document, or the publication that reported it first. Where a story rests on a single source, we say so in the copy.
We correct in the open. Mistakes are fixed on the article itself, with a dated note saying what changed. Nothing is quietly edited. Email [email protected] and read how we handle corrections.
We are transparent about AI. We use AI tools for research, drafting and production. Every story is checked and published by a named human editor who carries responsibility for it. AI illustrations are used only for re-enactments, never depict real people, and are always labelled.
We follow a published code. We write and edit to the Code of Ethics and Conduct for South African Print and Online Media. The full detail is in our editorial policy.
