Cardi B has issued a public apology to rapper Latto, responding on Thursday, 4 June 2026, to a Breakfast Club interview in which Latto confirmed her ‘Big Mama’ album track “Gimme Dat” was directed at Cardi directly.
The friction between the two artists dates back to 2025, when a leaked phone call captured Cardi making dismissive remarks about Latto to Ice Spice’s manager, James Rosemond Jr.
Latto appeared to address the incident on Big Mama, her retirement album released on Friday, 29 May 2026, with fans quickly identifying Gimme Dat as a targeted response.
Cardi B breaks silence after Latto’s Breakfast Club interview
During her Breakfast Club appearance on Thursday, 4 June 2026, Latto confirmed the lyric on Gimme Dat was aimed at Cardi, as reported by Complex.
Hours later, Cardi responded publicly on X, writing:
“I truly understand how you feel…and that’s exactly why I chose to apologize publicly because the disrespect became public.”
Cardi framed her comments on the original leaked call as the product of a heated moment rather than genuine hostility.
“On that call I didn’t even mean to call you that, I didn’t mean any harm,” she wrote.
“There’s a difference in what I said vs what I meant. But it was a heated conversation and I let my mouth get the best of me.”
She also cited her personal circumstances at the time the call was recorded.
“When the call came out I was eight months pregnant, had just released my album, and was extremely overwhelmed and emotional,” Cardi wrote.
“Thats not to excuse what I said but to let you know where I was in my head. I genuinely felt bad about what happened.”
Cardi went on to claim she made repeated private attempts to resolve the situation before going public.
“I spoke with your manager, your sister, and even texted you directly to take full responsibility,” she said, suggesting her outreach had gone unanswered ahead of the statement.
Where Latto stands on the apology
Latto did not issue an immediate response to Cardi’s X post.
During her Breakfast Club sit-down, she confirmed she had not spoken to Cardi since the ErrTime remix in September 2025 and indicated she would need more than a public statement before re-engaging her former collaborator.
She left the door open, however, saying she remained willing to have a conversation when the time felt right.
The back-and-forth has drawn significant attention across fan communities, with the Big Mama album and Cardi’s public statement both circulating widely on social media in the hours following the interview.
With both artists now on the record, the next development will hinge on whether Latto chooses to respond to Cardi’s private outreach or allows the public statements to stand as the close of this chapter.
Big Mama is available now on all major streaming platforms.
