Chris Brown has filed court documents demanding joint legal and physical custody of his four-year-old daughter Lovely Symphani Brown, hitting back after her mother, Diamond Brown, petitioned a Los Angeles court for sole custody in May 2026.
Diamond Brown originally filed a paternity suit against Brown on 3 April 2026, but Brown had already acknowledged paternity voluntarily before the filing.
The custody fight escalated in May when Diamond asked the court to award her full legal and physical custody with Brown receiving visitation only.
Brown’s legal team fired back in June, demanding joint custody and requesting that each party cover its own legal costs.
What Chris Brown’s counter-filing says
Brown’s court documents, as reported by TMZ, lay out a straightforward demand: joint legal and physical custody of Lovely Symphani, with no indication that Brown is disputing the child’s paternity.
The filing does not contest Diamond’s right to time with their daughter, but it firmly opposes the sole custody arrangement she is seeking.
Brown is also pushing back against any suggestion that his parental rights should be limited to supervised visitation.
Brown has four children with different partners. Lovely Symphani, born in 2022, is his youngest. His son Aeko was born in 2019 with model Ammika Harris, and his daughter Royalty was born in 2014 with Nia Guzman.
Brown has had a complicated legal history over the years, including a prior custody arrangement with Guzman that went through the courts before settling into a joint custody agreement.
His previous court appearances for other matters have followed him throughout his public life.
Diamond Brown’s response and what happens next
On 6 June 2026, Diamond Brown posted a text repost to her Instagram Story that read, “I see why Father’s Day is in Pride month… bunch of b*s,” before deleting it.
The post was widely interpreted as a dig at Brown ahead of Father’s Day, which falls on 21 June.
Neither side issued a formal statement following the post.
Diamond Brown, also known online as Diamond Jimenez, rose to public visibility partly through her connection to Brown. Lovely Symphani was born in early 2022, and Diamond has been the child’s primary caregiver.
She has been vocal on social media throughout the dispute, though her posts have been largely brief and oblique.
The case is still before a Los Angeles family court. Both sides will need to reach either a mediated agreement or proceed to a full hearing before any custody order is finalised.
Given the profile of the parties, the case is expected to attract ongoing media attention as it progresses through the court calendar in the second half of 2026.
