Chris Brown sentencing is set for Monday, 26 October 2026, at Southwark Crown Court in London, where the singer faces up to three years in prison for affray over a February 2023 nightclub brawl.

According to the Associated Press, Brown, 37, pleaded guilty to affray on Friday, 24 July 2026, and prosecutors dropped charges of assault, attempting to cause grievous bodily harm and having an offensive weapon in exchange. His friend and vocal coach, Omololu Akinlolu, also pleaded guilty to affray and will be sentenced. The offence carries a maximum of three years in prison.

Chris Brown sentencing: what happened at Tape nightclub?

The charge relates to a fight at Tape nightclub in Mayfair, London, on Sunday, 19 February 2023. Prosecutors said music producer Abraham Diaw was struck on the head with a bottle and that the fight was caught on surveillance camera in front of a club full of people. Brown had denied attacking Diaw with a bottle.

Akinlolu, 40, was also granted bail ahead of sentencing. Prosecutors had alleged that the two men continued attacking Diaw as he tried to flee. Those allegations formed part of the charges that were dropped when both men pleaded guilty to affray.

What sentence could Chris Brown face at sentencing?

Claire Campbell, a senior prosecutor at the Crown Prosecution Service, described the incident after Brown and Akinlolu entered their guilty pleas at Southwark Crown Court. The affray charge states that the pair used or threatened unlawful violence towards another. Campbell said:

This was a vicious and unprovoked attack by Brown and Akinlolu in a crowded nightclub, where Brown used a glass bottle as a weapon to strike the victim’s head twice.

Judge Tony Baumgartner told the July hearing that all options would be open to the court at sentencing. Under the Public Order Act 1986, affray involves using or threatening unlawful violence in a way that would make a bystander fear for their safety.

Chris Brown’s bail and legal history

Brown left the United Kingdom after the brawl and was arrested in May 2025 at a Manchester hotel after flying in for a concert. He was released on £5 million bail, about $6.7 million, which allowed him to tour Europe and North America. He was granted bail again on the day of his plea ahead of sentencing.

Brown performed to a sold-out FNB Stadium in Johannesburg in December 2024. He has won the Grammy for best R&B album twice, in 2011 and 2025. He has a felony conviction from 2009 for assaulting his then-girlfriend, Rihanna, hours before they were due to perform at the Grammys. The sentence in that case included five years of probation, community labour and domestic violence counselling.

At the July hearing, Brown and Akinlolu spoke only to confirm their names and their guilty pleas. Sentencing will take place at Southwark Crown Court, where the pleas were entered and where a trial had been scheduled for October before it was cancelled.
