Where and when did Chuck Norris die?

Norris died on Thursday morning in Hawaii. A source told TMZ that as recently as Wednesday, he had been training on the island of Kauai, was in good spirits, and was cracking jokes, suggesting the medical emergency came on very suddenly.

Norris owns a home on the island.

Born Carlos Ray Norris in Ryan, Oklahoma on 10 March 1940, Norris grew up in modest circumstances.

After moving to California as a teenager, he joined the US Air Force in 1958, and it was during a deployment to South Korea that he discovered martial arts, training in judo and Tang Soo Do.

He went on to become a six-time undefeated World Professional Middleweight Karate champion, and founded his own hard style of karate, Chun Kuk Do, as well as the United Fighting Arts Federation, which has awarded more than 3,300 black belts worldwide.

His transition to Hollywood came after training celebrities like Steve McQueen and Bob Barker at his chain of martial arts studios.

A pivotal film role came opposite Bruce Lee in the 1972 classic Return of the Dragon, before Norris became one of the defining action stars of the 1980s with films like Missing in Action and The Delta Force.

In 1993, he took on his most iconic role in Walker, Texas Ranger, which ran for nine seasons and cemented his status as a pop culture legend.

Why is Chuck Norris a cultural icon?

Beyond his on-screen career, Norris became the subject of the wildly popular “Chuck Norris Facts” internet meme phenomenon, hyperbolic jokes about his toughness that spread virally in the mid-2000s.

He ultimately embraced the meme, releasing The Official Chuck Norris Fact Book.

Norris is survived by his wife Gena and five children.
