The year of the Chilombo is upon us and nobody on this planet is more at peace with life than fans of the sensational songstress Jhene Aiko.
It has been a long journey for the 31-year-old. To get to this phase, Jhene Aiko battled with a lot of issues.
She and her romantic partner Big Sean went through a tumultuous break-up but through therapy and other healing methods, they have found their way back to each other.
For some time, it felt like we were never going to get another Jhene Aiko project.
The Souled Out star had to embark on a spiritual journey of self-discovery and learn to fully comprehend who she is and find acceptance in herself.
Following the release of her third studio album Trip, the songstress revealed that she has used the art of music to rediscover Penny, a persona that was birthed by her grandmother.
“When I was born, my grampy gave me the nickname Penny. Penny is me in my purest and most authentic form. Since 2012 {after the release of her 2011 Sailing Souls debut), I’ve been trying to get back to her. And through this process of making music, I’ve been rediscovering her,” she told LA Times in a 2017 interview.
This journey has moulded many memorable music experiences, one of which was released on Friday 6 March.
Her latest album release, Chilombo, is an ode to self-discovery and championing one’s identity. After all, Aiko was born Jhené Aiko Efuru Chilombo.
