Background: Migos, loss, and a solo career
The incident carries painful resonance for fans of the Migos era of hip-hop.
Offset’s childhood friend and group co-founder Takeoff — real name Kirsnick Khari Ball — was fatally shot in Houston, Texas, in November 2022.
The deaths and the dissolution of Migos represented the end of one of the defining chapters of 2010s trap music.
Offset has since pursued a solo career and maintains a substantial following across African markets, with his catalogue available on major streaming platforms including Apple Music and Spotify.
His shooting was trending at 2,000-plus searches in the United Kingdom and 500-plus in South Africa by Monday evening, making it one of the most-searched entertainment stories across both markets overnight.
Offset’s management team has yet to issue a statement on the investigation and his expected recovery timeline.
