Mother’s Day in South Africa falls on Sunday 10 May this year, giving shoppers five days to secure a gift, and the #WooliesMothersDay hashtag is trending nationally as one of the country’s most prominent retailers positions itself at the centre of the gifting conversation.

Woolworths has launched a dedicated Mother’s Day range spanning fashion, beauty, flowers, food and homeware, with price points from under R100 to above R450.

The second Sunday in May is one of South Africa’s highest-spending retail occasions, with in-store and online traffic surging in the preceding week. This year’s timing falls five days after the record May 2026 fuel price hike, which means many households are managing tighter discretionary budgets than in the same period last year.

What Woolworths is offering for Mother’s Day 2026

The Woolworths Mother’s Day range covers a wide spread of categories. In fashion, options include soft-touch crew neck cardigans and luxury cashmere jumpers.

The beauty range features the Distraction Luna Kiss Eau de Parfum, the Distraction Luna Kiss Shimmer Mist, and the full Distraction Gift Set, alongside the Botanicals Soak and Scrub Set in Mandarin and Basil scents.

Food and confectionery highlights include themed biscuits, a Floral Tray Bake and Berry Tea Cakes.

Flowers and plants form a strong pillar of the range. Woolworths notes that 90% of its flowers and plants are grown in South Africa, making them a locally sourced and typically fresher option compared with imported alternatives.

The range includes arrangements designed for display at home rather than short-life cut-flower bunches.

The retailer is also running a social giveaway linked to the #WooliesMothersDay hashtag on its South African social channels, with a R2,000 gift card in play across platforms ahead of the weekend.

Beyond Woolworths: other options before Sunday

Spa vouchers, restaurant bookings and experiential gifts have become firmly mainstream for Mother’s Day in South Africa, with demand for Sunday brunch reservations in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban typically outrunning availability in the final days before the event.

Restaurants in most major metros will be fully booked by Friday.

For tighter budgets this year, digital gifts including streaming subscriptions and online bookshop credits offer meaningful options at lower price points. Same-day delivery from major retailers is available in most metros for orders placed before Saturday.

Online orders from Woolworths, Takealot and other retailers have delivery cutoffs that typically fall two to three days before the event, meaning Thursday is the practical last day for guaranteed delivery across most areas.

In-store availability on popular beauty and confectionery ranges generally runs low in the 48 hours before Mother’s Day itself.

Shopping earlier in the week offers better availability and less pressure than leaving it to the weekend.
