On what would have been her 23rd birthday, rapper and fiancé Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes penned a heartfelt tribute to Anele Tembe on his new single Tears Run Dry.

Fresh from dropping You’re Welcome with Costa Titch, AKA reserved this new single for Tembe’s posthumous birthday. 

'First thing on my mind, when I wake up.
I cannot feel sunshine, because you not by my side.
Nothing else - can replace us
Tried to break down and cry but all my tears run dry.'

For about three minutes and 40 seconds, we hear an unfiltered account of AKA’s life after the tragedy that took place at a Cape Town boutique hotel back in April.

On the song, the rapper wears his heart on his sleeve and delves into the throes of loss and marks this moment of acceptance as a period of renewal where he’s accepted that Tembe is gone forever.

By all accounts, the new single is a more digestible reflection on what happened to Tembe, more so than the infamous ‘tell-all’ interview he did in May.
