A head-on taxi crash on the R603 in Eston, just outside Pietermaritzburg, claimed the life of a woman and left another person seriously injured early this morning.

This morning, just after 06:00, a fatal accident occurred on the R603 in Eston involving a taxi and a light motor vehicle.
The two vehicles collided head-on, causing the taxi to veer off the road.
Paramedics from ALS Paramedics responded swiftly to the scene.
Upon arrival, they assessed the situation and found that the driver of the light motor vehicle, a woman in her thirties, had sustained fatal injuries.
Unfortunately, there was nothing they could do to save her, and she was declared dead at the scene.
One passenger from the taxi suffered moderate injuries.
Paramedics provided immediate stabilisation on the scene before transporting the injured individual to a nearby hospital for further medical care.
At this stage, the exact circumstances leading up to the collision remain unclear.
However, the South African Police Service (SAPS) was present at the scene and launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
