Traffic congestion was higher than normal on the N2 inbound highway in Cape Town, on Thursday morning, due to a MyCiti bus that caught fire.

Motorists heading toward the Mother City’s central district were met with plumes of thick, dark smoke permeating from a MyCiti bus engulfed in flames.
While no persons were injured during the incident, the incident forced the closure of several lanes and exacerbated an already congested pathway on the N2 inbound.
MyCiti had not responded to our queries when this article was published, but according to their social media team, the transit service is aware of the incident and a maintenance unit has been deployed to contain the situation.
Moreover, the presence of Cape Town law enforcement and armed private security heightened speculation of a possible attack on the bus service linked to the ongoing taxi war between rival associations.
However, these rumours have yet to be verified.
Elsewhere, in Mitchell’s Plain, law enforcement units foiled a hijacking.
From what we understand, several armed gunmen hijacked a vehicle in the Cape Flats suburb but were chased by a team of on-duty patrol officers.
The hijackers didn’t get too far and crashed the stolen vehicle at Bien Donna Street, in Westridge.
Officers were at the scene of the crash, with the suspects cuffed, when this article was published.
