The Eldorado Park e-hailing robbery caught on dashcam on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, has led to the arrest of five suspects aged between 15 and 21, Gauteng police said on Thursday, 29 October 2026.

According to IOL, Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said a 20-year-old e-hailing driver in a white Toyota Etios was robbed in Eldorado Park Extension 7 on the morning of Tuesday, 27 October 2026. Footage from the vehicle spread on social media and prompted outrage, with a man heard shouting for someone to shoot the driver as he fled.

What happened in the Eldorado Park e-hailing robbery?

Nevhuhulwi said the driver had responded to a ride request to collect a passenger on Maine Street. The dashcam footage shows a woman getting into the front passenger seat of the stationary car, and Nevhuhulwi described how the robbery began once the driver arrived:

Upon arrival, a female suspect signalled the driver and entered the front passenger seat, instructing him to wait for her brothers

The footage appears to show the woman trying to grab the driver’s cellphone while a male accomplice pulls the handbrake from the back seat, forcing the driver to flee the vehicle. One of the suspects appears to hold a firearm and chase the driver.

Two male suspects joined them, and one suspect engaged the handbrake while the group robbed the driver of an undisclosed amount of cash, his driver’s licence, identity document and bank cards, according to Nevhuhulwi. A fourth suspect standing outside the vehicle fired a gunshot and demanded the driver’s cellphone. Nevhuhulwi said:

The suspects subsequently fled the scene without taking the phone

How did the Eldorado Park e-hailing robbery become a police case?

Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko said on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, that no case had been reported at the local police station and urged the driver to open one so that police could investigate. Another dashcam video from Pinetown, in which a driver fired back at hijackers, emerged in October 2026.

Nevhuhulwi said a follow-up investigation, supported by operational information, led to the arrest of five suspects. Officers from Eldorado Park crime intelligence, detectives and visible policing units took part in the operation. The suspects are aged between 15 and 21, and Nevhuhulwi said:

All suspects are expected to appear before court soon on charges related to armed robbery and firearm offences

Who are the Eldorado Park e-hailing robbery suspects?

Police have not released the names of the five suspects, and the allegations against them have not been tested in court. Police have not named the woman seen in the footage. South African law prohibits publishing information that may reveal the identity of an accused person under 18, which applies to at least one suspect given the age range police gave.

Earlier e-hailing robberies in Eldorado Park

This is not the first e-hailing robbery in the area to end in arrests. Police in Eldorado Park arrested five suspects aged 17 and 18 for armed robbery and possession of suspected stolen goods on Saturday, 17 August 2024, after an e-hailing driver was robbed of his cellphone, cash and bank cards at gunpoint.
