The ‘GTA 6’ launch is set for Thursday, 19 November 2026, when Grand Theft Auto VI arrives on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with pre-loading open from Thursday, 12 November 2026.
According to Rockstar Games, the game is limited to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with no PS4 or Xbox One version. Pre-loading, the digital download that lets players install the game days early so it plays the moment it unlocks, opens at midnight local time on Thursday, 12 November 2026.
‘GTA 6’ launch time for South African players
Pre-orders opened at midnight local time on Thursday, 25 June 2026, and the unlock follows the same pattern, so South African players on SAST get the game at 00:00 on Thursday, 19 November 2026. The unlock rolls across time zones, starting in New Zealand at 00:00 NZDT (13:00 SAST on Wednesday, 18 November 2026).
‘GTA 6’ launch editions and rand prices
The Standard Edition costs $79.99, or R1 500 in South Africa, and the Ultimate Edition costs $99.99, or R1 900. Ultimate adds premium vehicles, apparel and personalised weapons, plus two vehicle mod shops, and Standard buyers can upgrade later. A third product, the $399.99 Goodtime State collector set, holds merchandise only and does not include the game.
Every pre-order includes the Vintage Vice City Pack, a two-tone Vapid Stanier sedan, the Shore Court Garage, throwback outfits and a weapon pattern, and digital pre-orders add a free month of GTA+. Physical editions ship as a download code in a box with no disc, and are available from Thursday, 12 November 2026.
Pre-order demand before the ‘GTA 6’ launch
Rockstar added months to the wait on Thursday, 6 November 2025, saying “these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve”. An extended look followed on Thursday, 27 August 2026, and the PS5-captured launch trailer arrived on Thursday, 15 October 2026 at 14:00 London time (15:00 SAST).
Demand has been loud since pre-orders opened. Strauss Zelnick, chief executive of Take-Two Interactive, described the level of pre-orders as unprecedented on an earnings call on Friday, 7 August 2026, and said he believes Rockstar “got it right” on price. His fuller remarks were more cautious about what that means for sales:
“I can say that the level of pre-orders is unprecedented and astonishing, and we’re very grateful for that. But they are so unprecedented that we just don’t know how it’ll translate into sales, which is a question I answered earlier. We genuinely don’t, and we just don’t believe in claiming victory before it occurs,” Strauss Zelnick said.
