GTA 6 pre-orders open today after Best Buy email leak

GTA 6 pre-orders are expected live on 18 May 2026 after Best Buy leaked the date through affiliate emails, ahead of the confirmed November 2026 game release.

Grand Theft Auto 6 pre-orders are reportedly going live on 18 May 2026, after an internal Best Buy affiliate email accidentally confirmed the date before Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive made any official announcement.

The promotional campaign email was distributed through Impact, one of the major affiliate partner marketplaces, to Best Buy’s commission-based affiliate partners ahead of the launch window.

The email confirmed a four-day pre-order period running from 18 to 21 May 2026. Insider Gaming independently verified the emails were authentic by obtaining copies forwarded directly by affiliates.

Rockstar and Take-Two had not issued an official statement at the time of publishing, though neither company denied the leak.

How the GTA 6 pre-order date leaked through Best Buy

Affiliate marketing is how big retailers get independent websites to drive traffic to their product pages in exchange for a commission on sales.

The mechanics are straightforward: a retailer like Best Buy briefs its affiliate partners ahead of a campaign launch so they can prepare their promotional content. The problem, every time, is that this briefing window creates a gap between what the retailer knows and what the public officially knows. That gap is where leaks live, and the internet is very good at finding them.

Take-Two’s chief executive, Strauss Zelnick, had previously stated that GTA 6 marketing would begin in summer 2026, which makes a May pre-order window slightly earlier than publicly signalled.

The timing is not without logic, however. Take-Two’s Q4 earnings call is scheduled for 21 May 2026, the same day the Best Buy affiliate pre-order window closes, and opening pre-orders just before a major earnings call has an obvious strategic appeal.

What ‘GTA 6’ pre-orders will cost and what to expect

The base game is reportedly priced at $70, consistent with current-generation pricing across the major platforms. Pre-order leak circulating ahead of today’s expected opening also suggest the game will offer early access options and multiple pricing tiers, though those details have not been confirmed by Rockstar or Take-Two.

Whether pre-order bonuses or exclusive in-game items will be attached to the launch window is similarly unconfirmed.

The community response to the expected opening has been intense. GTA 6 has been in active development since at least 2022 and has been the subject of more speculation, leaks and forum debate than almost any other game in history.

When GTA 6 arrives and what it brings

GTA 6 is currently confirmed for release on 19 November 2026 on current-generation consoles. The game is set in Leonida, Rockstar’s fictional version of Florida, and returns the series to Vice City and its surroundings for the first time since 2002.

Lucia is the game’s protagonist, marking the first playable female lead in a mainline GTA title since the franchise’s early entries. Reports from within the development pipeline have described an intense production schedule, with employees reportedly working extended hours to meet the November deadline.

Whether today’s pre-order window officially opens or not, Take-Two’s earnings call on 21 May 2026 is the clearest upcoming moment for official confirmation on the campaign’s timing and structure.
