The ‘NBA 2K27’ companion app arrived on Friday, 21 August 2026, when 2K launched NBA 2K HQ at 8:00 PT (17:00 SAST) worldwide, retiring MyNBA2K five days ahead of the game’s early access period.
The app landed on Android and iOS as a full replacement for the MyNBA2K Companion App, which was switched off the same day, according to 2K’s official newsroom.
Companion apps sit alongside a console game, handing players a second screen for tasks that would otherwise eat into their playing time.
That second screen is the point. Every hour spent in menus is an hour not spent playing, and 2K has moved the heaviest of those menus, the character creation suite, onto a phone that players carry everywhere.
The console is left to do the part it does best.

MyPLAYER is the custom basketball player a user takes through the game’s career and online modes, and the MyPLAYER Builder is the menu where height, weight, wingspan and attribute points get locked in.
Those choices decide whether a build shoots, defends or slashes, and they are difficult to undo.
2K HQ carried the full builder, so a player could finish a build on a commute and upload it straight to their home console setup, ready when the game unlocked.
Builds could also be passed to friends through a QR code, which turned a private spreadsheet exercise into something shareable.
Face Scan is the feature that maps a real face onto that in-game player using the phone’s camera. 2K said the new version scanned faster and more accurately, with higher-fidelity texture quality, which is the nerdy way of saying skin detail and lighting no longer land somewhere in the uncanny valley.

Crews are the persistent squads that online basketball runs on, and their weak point has always been coordination. 2K HQ added real-time messaging and full Crew management on mobile, so a roster could be reshuffled, invites sent and a session arranged without anyone sitting in front of a console.
The app also carried mobile-exclusive daily login rewards, Daily Leaderboards and Crew Rewards tracking.
That is a retention loop borrowed from mobile gaming, where a small daily incentive keeps a player opening an app on days they never intend to switch the console on at all.
