Rapper Megan Thee Stallion was visibly emotional during a Broadway performance of Moulin Rouge! on Saturday evening, hours after publicly confirming the end of her relationship with NBA star Klay Thompson. The 31-year-old, who is currently starring in the Tony Award-winning musical for an eight-week run in New York City, was seen turning her back to the audience during the curtain call to wipe away tears as the crowd’s applause intensified around her.
The split was confirmed by Megan on Friday, April 25, when she posted a statement to social media alleging Thompson had been unfaithful during their relationship.
“Cheating, had me around your whole family playing house…got ‘cold feet,'” she wrote on her Instagram Stories, adding:
“Holding you down through all your HORRIBLE mood swings and treatment towards me during your basketball season now you don’t know if you can be ‘monogamous’????”
Shortly after, she released a more composed formal statement. “I’ve made the decision to end my relationship with Klay,” it read.
“Trust, fidelity and respect are non-negotiable for me in a relationship, and when those values are compromised, there’s no real path forward. I’m taking this time to prioritise myself and move ahead with peace and clarity.”
From the stage to social media
Megan plays the role of Zidler in the production, a demanding character role that requires her to be on stage for much of the show’s running time.
According to reports, footage from Saturday’s curtain call shows her still in costume, wiping her face before turning back to face the audience.

The crowd’s response grew louder as the moment played out, with many in attendance reportedly unaware of the earlier social media posts before arriving at the theatre.
The relationship between Megan and Thompson had attracted significant public attention since they were first linked in 2025.
Thompson, a two-time NBA champion who previously played for the Golden State Warriors and Boston Celtics, had not publicly responded to the allegations at the time of publishing.
The claims he is unable to be monogamous could not be verified independently.
What comes next for Megan
Megan Thee Stallion is contracted to complete her Moulin Rouge! run on Broadway, and there is no indication she intends to withdraw from the production.
The response to her curtain call moment has drawn widespread sympathy online, with fans and celebrity peers publicly expressing support across social media platforms in the hours since the footage circulated.
The split is the latest chapter in a turbulent public period for the Body rapper, who has spent much of the past two years navigating high-profile legal proceedings and public scrutiny.
Whether the breakup becomes the subject of new music remains to be seen, though her track record suggests it is not unlikely.
