Prince Harry wants to reconcile with his family, telling GQ Magazine that “the most important thing is to reconcile, that’s the key point”, in an interview that surfaced on Tuesday, 20 October 2026.

According to GQ Magazine, Harry was asked on camera whether he grieves over his complicated relationships with his father, King Charles, and his brother, Prince William, and he answered yes. He then said repairing those ties is his priority, and that he would encourage others to let go of the past.

Prince Harry wants to reconcile: what he said

Harry said scars from family disputes can last, but he would encourage people to let go of the past, and he described sibling rifts and broken parent-child bonds as common stories he hears from others. He explained why he would rather move on:

“…there’s enough drama in the world and enough drama in people’s lives to continue with issues with family,” Harry said.

On the prospect of reconciliation, Harry said “I want it to work out”, but he added a line that has drawn attention. Some outlets read the remark as a swipe at William, although Harry did not name anyone:

“Some people don’t want it to work out,” Harry said.

A Sussex spokesperson said the comment was “absolutely not intended as a swipe” at William or any family member and was made in a general context. The brothers are not on speaking terms, and Harry’s memoir Spare set out the rift between them.

Harry’s return to the UK and the royal rift

Harry returned to Britain in August with Meghan, Archie and Lilibet after years in California. He said putting the children in a British school had meant a lot to him, and that he was not criticising American schools. The palace has not commented on the interview.

Harry’s other recent comments on his family include a speech in April 2026, when he told a summit in Melbourne that the royal system was to blame for the death of his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales. It was his most direct public comment on her death.

Harry last met King Charles on Wednesday, 10 September 2025, when the two had tea at Clarence House in London, their first meeting in 19 months. Charles announced in February 2024 that he had been diagnosed with cancer, and Harry travelled to see him days later.

It is not the first time Harry has made the appeal. In May 2025, shortly after losing a court case over his UK police protection, he told a British broadcaster that he could not see a world in which he would bring Meghan and the children back to the UK. They returned in August 2026.
