Taylor Swift has confirmed she wrote and recorded an original song for Disney Pixar’s Toy Story 5, titled ‘I Knew It, I Knew You’, arriving on streaming platforms on Friday, 5 June 2026, two weeks before the film opens in cinemas.
Swift announced the collaboration on Monday via her Instagram, and the reveal came after weeks of cryptic speculation from her fanbase, as reported by Deadline.
A billboard featuring the initials “TS” had appeared in multiple cities, and an unexplained countdown on Swift’s website preceded the official announcement.
Both Toy Story and Taylor Swift share those initials, and it turns out both were in on it.
Taylor Swift’s Toy Story 5 song: what ‘I Knew It, I Knew You’ is about
I Knew It, I Knew You is co-written and co-produced by Swift and Jack Antonoff, her longtime collaborator who most recently worked with her on The Tortured Poets Department.
The song is described by Disney as “a return to country” for Swift, tied directly to the arc of Jessie, the cowgirl character first introduced in Toy Story 2.
Swift explained that the song grew out of an early screening of the film.
“I wrote this song as soon as I got home from the screening,” she said.
“Sometimes you just know, right?”
The song is available on streaming as well as a CD single through her webstore, with acoustic and piano versions offered alongside the studio version.
What Toy Story 5 is about
Toy Story 5 picks up a Toys vs. Tech storyline, with the arrival of a new tablet called Lilypad, voiced by Greta Lee, into Bonnie’s life.
The film features returning cast members alongside several new additions, including Conan O’Brien, Craig Robinson, Matty Matheson and Mykal-Michelle Harris. Andrew Stanton directed the film, returning to the franchise he helped build.
Several roles have been recast since the previous instalment. Jeff Bergman voices Mr. Potato Head, taking over from the late Don Rickles. Ernie Hudson steps in as Combat Carl, a role previously held by the late Carl Weathers.
The film has been in development for years, and the introduction of Swift to its soundtrack adds a significant commercial and cultural layer ahead of its release.
What happens next
I Knew It, I Knew You arrives on streaming on Friday, 5 June 2026. Toy Story 5 opens in cinemas on 19 June.
If the song lands the way Swift’s Disney-adjacent releases typically do, the combination of the Swiftie fanbase and the Toy Story franchise gives this one an unusual ceiling for a film soundtrack single.
