Police in Buda are investigating a physical confrontation that took place during a student protest walkout linked to demonstrations over federal immigration enforcement.

According to the Buda Police Department, officers responded to reports of a fight near the intersection of RM 967 and FM 1626, where students from the Hays Consolidated Independent School District had gathered as part of broader walkouts connected to protests about US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Authorities said an argument between a female minor and an adult man escalated into a physical altercation. Police confirmed both individuals have been identified, but no arrests had been made at the time of the initial report. The investigation remains ongoing.

Video of the altercation spreads online

Video clips circulating on social media appear to show part of the confrontation. In the footage, the adult and the student can be seen grappling before other students step in and pull them apart.

Police said they are reviewing available video evidence along with witness statements to determine what happened and whether any charges may follow. No official information has been released about injuries.

The incident occurred during student walkouts that formed part of wider demonstrations in Central Texas. Students in several districts left school grounds to protest federal immigration enforcement policies.

While most gatherings were described as peaceful, law enforcement agencies were present in some areas to manage traffic and ensure safety.

A spokesperson for Hays CISD said the altercation happened off school property. The district acknowledged awareness of the situation but indicated that the matter falls under local law enforcement jurisdiction rather than school disciplinary processes.

The Buda Police Department said the case is still under review. Officers are examining the sequence of events, the involvement of bystanders and the conduct of both the adult and the student.

Officials have not announced whether citations or charges will be issued. Police emphasised that the investigation will rely on evidence, including video and witness accounts, before any decisions are made.
