New York Knicks 2-0 up in NBA Finals after Game 2 thriller

New York Knicks lead the NBA Finals 2026 2-0 after a 105-104 Game 2 win over the Spurs, now with 13 straight playoff victories.

The New York Knicks survived a last-second Victor Wembanyama buzzer attempt to beat the San Antonio Spurs 105–104 in Game 2 of the 2026 NBA Finals on Friday, 5 June 2026, taking a commanding 2–0 series lead and extending their record-setting postseason winning streak to 13 games.

Jalen Brunson finished with 20 points, five rebounds, six assists and five steals, while Mikal Bridges scored 20 points on eight-of-nine shooting with four three-pointers, as reported by ESPN.

The result means the series now shifts to Madison Square Garden in New York for Games 3 and 4.

NBA Finals 2026: how Game 2 played out

San Antonio had the better of the opening exchanges and, as in Game 1, pushed to a significant lead in the first half.

Wembanyama, averaging 23.2 points and 3.5 blocks per game this postseason, set the tone early with a dominant two-way performance.

But the Spurs were unable to sustain it, and the Knicks’ collective effort slowly ate into the deficit across the second and third quarters.

The fourth quarter belonged to Brunson. The Knicks held on despite San Antonio pushing the score to 104–105 in the dying seconds.

Wembanyama launched a buzzer-attempt from deep that hit the back of the rim and fell away, sealing New York’s seventh straight win in San Antonio across a two-game stretch.

The NBA Finals 2026 Knicks streak in context

This postseason run is historic by any measure. New York entered the Finals on the back of 11 consecutive playoff wins, the largest positive point differential in playoff history at plus-271.

With two more wins in this series, the Knicks have extended that to 13. Only the 1999 San Antonio Spurs and the 2015 Golden State Warriors have posted comparable sustained dominance in a single postseason, and both won the title.

The Knicks last appeared in the NBA Finals in 1999 and lost. Brunson, averaging 26.9 points per game across this postseason, has carried an offence that has found ways to win close games, which Game 2 was.

His five steals on the night disrupted San Antonio’s rhythm in the critical final minutes.

What comes next in the series

Game 3 takes place at Madison Square Garden, where the Knicks have been virtually unplayable this postseason. A 3–0 lead would put them one win from the first NBA championship in franchise history.

San Antonio has beaten teams from behind before, including a Game 7 against the Oklahoma City Thunder to reach the Finals, and Wembanyama will carry the weight of their comeback hopes.

The schedule for Games 3 and 4 was confirmed by the NBA, with Game 3 set for New York in the coming days.
