Manchester United training on Tuesday, 20 October 2026 was missing six players, including Marcus Rashford, Lisandro Martinez, Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw, a day before the Champions League tie at Como.
According to Brit Brief, Rashford, Martinez, Mainoo, Shaw, defender Ayden Heaven and defender Leny Yoro did not train with the main group at Carrington. Yoro is serving a one-match European suspension after his red card in the 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid, and the other five are dealing with injury or illness.
Who was missing from Manchester United training?
Martinez came off at half-time in the 1-1 draw at Leeds with a thigh problem, and Heaven missed that game through illness. Mainoo has been out since the Atletico match, and Shaw has missed the last two games. Manager Michael Carrick addressed Martinez’s injury:
“He felt his thigh a little bit,” Carrick said.
Rashford was an unused substitute in the 1-1 draw at Leeds, and the club is monitoring his fitness ahead of the trip to Italy for the third match of its Champions League league phase. Carrick said of Rashford:
“Marcus has been carrying a little bit of something so we’re managing him to a point,” Carrick said.
Mainoo and Shaw have both missed the last two games, and neither has been ruled in or out of the squad for the match in Italy. On their availability, Carrick was less definite than he was about Martinez:
“We’ll see on Luke and Kobbie,” Carrick said.
Manchester United training news and the longer-term absentees
Patrick Dorgu and Benjamin Sesko are the longer-term absentees. Dorgu was injured playing for Denmark against Wales during the international break, while Sesko has missed the last four games with a shin injury. Carrick said of Dorgu:
“Patrick came off and looks like he’ll be out for probably a number of weeks,” Carrick said.
Carrick was less specific about Sesko, whose shin injury has kept him out of the last four games and whose return date the club has not given. He told reporters that more information would follow once the club knew more:
“He’s still a little bit further away, but when we know a little bit more, we’ll let you know,” Carrick said.
United arrive in Italy after a 2-0 defeat at Atletico Madrid on matchday two, which followed a win over Sabah in their opener and leaves them on three points. Como are also on three points after beating RB Leipzig 4-1 and losing 3-2 at Feyenoord. United’s league results sit in the 2026/27 Premier League hub.
Kick-off at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia is at 17:45 UK time (18:45 SAST) on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, in northern Italy. Yoro is suspended for the game, and the availability of the other five absentees from training is still to be decided.
