Jhené Aiko released ‘Westside Whimsy’ on Friday, 11 September 2026, her fourth studio album and first in six years, reuniting her with Kendrick Lamar on the track ‘So Good’.
The album closed a six-year gap since Chilombo, the 2020 record that debuted at number two on the main American albums chart and earned a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year, as reported by Complex.
The new tracklist ran to 20 songs, 15 of them solo cuts.

Aiko built Westside Whimsy around 20 tracks, with 15 solo cuts and five shaped around guests. Kendrick Lamar, Larry June, Ab-Soul, Tyga and OHMA all turned up on the feature side, giving a record about California a guest list drawn almost entirely from its own backyard.
Larry June, rumoured to be dating Aiko, landed on Neighbors, a track placed just ahead of California Dream, the collaboration the two released earlier. Neither party confirmed the romance, which left the music as the only thing anyone could point to with any certainty.
The Kendrick Lamar reunion on ‘Westside Whimsy’
So Good marked the first time Aiko and Kendrick Lamar shared a track in nearly 13 years, and only the third time in their careers.
They first linked up on 2010’s Growing Apart (To Get Closer) from his Overly Dedicated mixtape, back when both were still building a name.
Three years later, Lamar appeared on Stay Ready (What A Life) from Aiko’s Sail Out EP, a pairing that fans never stopped replaying. The gap between that EP and this album ran through most of the decade in which Lamar became one of the most awarded names in hip-hop.
Where Westside Whimsy got its sound
Aiko traced Westside Whimsy back to ’90s West Coast car culture, surfing culture and what she called the mystic spirit of California. The result leaned into drives down the coast rather than club records, which fit an artist who built her catalogue on mood over momentum.
Speaking about the album in April 2026, Jhené Aiko said:
“When I think of California, it’s just such a magical place and I love a good road trip and I’ve been doing them for many years.”
That road-trip logic ran through the sequencing, with the record moving at the pace of a long drive rather than a playlist.
Aiko has always written in that register, stretching songs out and letting the beat breathe, and a California concept album gave her the widest possible frame for it.
Westside Whimsy arrived on all major streaming platforms on release day, and no tour dates accompanied the rollout. Whether Aiko takes the album on the road, and whether that road ever reaches South Africa, was the next thing her audience was waiting to hear about.
