The Avengers: Doomsday teaser that aired during Game 1 of the World Series on Friday, 23 October 2026 reunites Steve Rogers and Thor, with the pair joking about Mjolnir.

According to ComicBook.com, Marvel Studios’ preview splices new scenes between footage of real baseball players reacting. What happens in the Avengers: Doomsday teaser?

The clip opens at a Brooklyn Dodgers game on Earth-828, the Fantastic Four’s home universe, where Pedro Pascal’s Mister Fantastic throws the ceremonial first pitch to Joseph Quinn’s Johnny Storm. MLB stars including Bryce Harper and Freddie Freeman watch from the sidelines until Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom crashes the game.

Then it cuts to the Avengers. Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers and Chris Hemsworth’s Thor trade jabs over hammers. Steve last lifted Mjolnir in the final battle against Thanos in Avengers: Endgame. Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man is then left unsure whether to call Steve or Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson “Cap”, before quick shots of Sam’s Avengers team, the X-Men and the Wakandans.

How did Steve Rogers and Thor get here in Avengers: Doomsday?

The reunion has been building since the first teaser on Tuesday, 23 December 2025, which showed Steve holding a baby. A Thor-focused follow-up came days later, with the god of thunder praying to Odin in a forest and kissing his daughter, Love, on the forehead.

The reunion first appeared in the full trailer shown at CinemaCon on Thursday, 16 April 2026 and released online in July 2026. Thor is stunned to see Steve, who went back in time to grow old with Peggy Carter at the end of Endgame, and Steve picks up Mjolnir.

Evans, who has said fatherhood changed how he chooses work, addressed Steve’s return while promoting the film at CinemaCon, explaining why the character is back after his farewell in Endgame and what the other heroes need from him:

“There’s a very real reason why these heroes need Steve Rogers.”

Chris Evans, speaking at CinemaCon 2026

Thor’s arc is being steered by the film’s directors, Anthony and Joe Russo, who bring back the warrior version of the hero seen in Avengers: Infinity War. Joe Russo has said the team is carrying forward “the Infinity War Thor”, and described him this way:

“We love that sort of warrior version of him, that warrior who has lost everything, who is seeking meaning through battle.”
