Disney has confirmed the ‘Descendants: Wicked Wonderland’ release date, with the fifth film in the franchise arriving on Disney+ on Friday, 17 July 2026, a day after its Disney Channel premiere.
The confirmation arrived with a freshly released official trailer, new key art and a villain anthem, as reported by Variety.
The film premieres on Disney Channel on Thursday, 16 July 2026, then lands globally on Disney+ the following day for streaming subscribers, South Africa included.
What the ‘Descendants: Wicked Wonderland’ release date brings
The trailer offers the first proper look at how the story tips the fairytale peace back into chaos. It leans hard on the bright, madcap Wonderland aesthetic the marketing has teased for months, and the new villain anthem hands Maddox Hatter a musical calling card of his own.
Wicked Wonderland picks up after the events that reshaped the fairytale world.
With the Queen of Hearts now good and Cinderella safe, life looks settled for Red and Chloe, until a spot of meddling with the past spawns a brand new villain in Maddox Hatter.
When Maddox captures the Queen of Hearts, Red and Chloe are forced to team up with a fresh crew to save her and Wonderland itself.
That crew includes Red’s new sister Pink, Luisa Madrigal’s son Luis, Captain Hook’s daughter Hazel and Maddox’s own son Max.
Who stars in ‘Descendants: Wicked Wonderland’
Plenty of familiar faces are back for the fifth outing. Kylie Cantrall returns as Red and Malia Baker as Chloe, with Leonardo Nam as Maddox Hatter, Melanie Paxson as the Fairy Godmother, Paolo Montalban as King Charming, Rita Ora as the Queen of Hearts and Brandy reprising Cinderella.
The new intake is led by Awkwafina, who voices Chessy the Cat, alongside Liamani Segura as Pink, Brendon Tremblay as Max Hatter, Alexandro Byrd as Luis Madrigal, Kiara Romero as Hazel Hook, Joel Oulette as Robbie Hood and Zavien Garrett as Felix Facilier.
Rounding out the newcomers are Ryan McEwen as Squirmy Smee and Dayton Paradis as Squeaky Smee, filling out a Wonderland that leans heavily on doubled-up characters and tangled family trees pulled from right across the wider Descendants universe.
The Descendants films have built a loyal following among younger streamers since the first arrived in 2015, blending pop musical numbers with the children of classic Disney villains.
Wicked Wonderland extends that formula with a Wonderland-flavoured chapter aimed squarely at the same fanbase.
For local fans the wait is short. Descendants: Wicked Wonderland streams on Disney+ from Friday, 17 July 2026, and its performance will help decide whether Disney keeps building out a franchise that shows very little sign of slowing down.
