Paul Pogba’s Monaco contract is to be terminated after the 33-year-old midfielder suffered a fresh left thigh injury at the club’s pre-season training camp on Monday, 10 August 2026.
The former France and Manchester United player went to ground during a passing drill at St George’s Park and needed immediate attention from Monaco’s medical staff, as reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport.
He had already been told weeks earlier that the club intended to end the arrangement early.
St George’s Park, the English Football Association’s national training centre in Staffordshire, hosted the Monaco squad for its pre-season camp.
Clubs use such bases for controlled sessions before the competitive season, which is why a passing drill rather than a match produced the injury.

AS Monaco decided to terminate the deal and will seek a financial settlement covering the wages still owed under it.
Early termination of that kind usually requires agreement on a lump sum, because a player’s guaranteed salary does not simply fall away when a club walks.
Pogba joined Monaco in 2025 intending to relaunch a career interrupted by a doping ban. He made six competitive appearances in his first season, all of them in Ligue 1, a return far below what either side had planned when the deal was signed.

Scuro went on to raise the option Monaco has now taken.
“If it does not work, for sure the parties can sit down in the summer and try to have another discussion, where do we go?”
