Mark Gurman, among the most closely watched Apple reporters, projected Tuesday, 8 September 2026 instead, reading the company’s habit of scheduling its autumn event just after the American Labour Day holiday.
When the iPhone 18 Pro release date lands
The devices themselves were pegged to reach shop shelves on Friday, 18 September 2026, the Friday after the keynote. Apple stuck to that rhythm for years, announcing on a Tuesday or Wednesday, opening pre-orders that Friday, then shipping a week later.
The bigger story sat inside. Leaks pointed to Apple’s first 2-nanometre chip powering the Pro models. The nanometre figure described how tightly transistors were packed onto the silicon, so a smaller number meant more processing power per square millimetre and less battery burned doing the same work.
A redesigned front display was also in play. Reports described the Dynamic Island cut-out shrinking sharply or vanishing, with the Face ID sensors buried under the screen itself.
For the buyer that meant a cleaner, edge-to-edge slab of glass with nothing punched out of it, while unlocking worked exactly as before.
A foldable lands alongside the iPhone 18 Pro release date
Apple’s first foldable iPhone was expected to launch alongside the Pro lineup in September 2026, tentatively called the iPhone Fold or iPhone Ultra. The design was described as book-style, meaning the handset opened out like a paperback into a tablet-sized screen, the same idea Samsung and Google already sell.
The nod was not new. Code inside Apple’s iOS 27 Messages features build, detailed in July 2026, already referenced an iPhone Ultra, a name Apple never used publicly. Nothing about the folding hardware was officially confirmed at the time of publishing.
Five new iPhones across two release windows
Reporting out of Japan suggested Apple was tearing up its single-launch calendar altogether, planning at least five new iPhone models across the second half of 2026 and the first half of 2027.
The standard iPhone 18 and the cheaper iPhone 18e were reportedly pushed back to spring 2027.
That split would hand the Pro models and the foldable an autumn stage of their own, with the mainstream handsets arriving months later. Buyers wanting the cheapest new iPhone would wait longer; buyers chasing the 2-nanometre silicon would pay Pro money for the privilege in September.
Apple had not confirmed any of it. The company traditionally posts its September invitations in late August, which would put the first official word on the iPhone 18 Pro release date roughly three weeks out from the event itself.
