‘Deltarune Chapter 5′ launched worldwide on Wednesday, 24 June 2026, arriving as a free update at 11:00 EDT (17:00 SAST) across Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation, PC and Mac.
The chapter is the latest instalment in Deltarune, the episodic role-playing game from Toby Fox, the developer behind the cult hit Undertale, as reported by Tech Times.
As with earlier chapters, it drops for free for anyone who already owns the game.
What the Deltarune Chapter 5 release includes
The release went live simultaneously around the world, a deliberate move to keep the community on the same page and dodge early spoilers leaking across time zones.
Switch 2 owners get the chapter alongside players on the original Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC and Mac.
The 24 June launch was confirmed earlier this month during a Nintendo Direct on 9 June 2026, where Fox laid out the release window and teased what was coming.
The runway gave players a couple of weeks to replay the earlier chapters before diving in.
For anyone new to it, Deltarune is a story-driven adventure that mixes turn-based and bullet-dodging combat with the offbeat humour and heavy emotional beats that made Undertale a phenomenon.
Each chapter pushes the overarching story forward rather than working as a standalone tale.
Fox framed the new chapter around a shift in tone after the heavier ending of Chapter 4.
“In Chapter 4, we saw dark clouds on the horizon… That’s why, let’s not look there for now. Let’s turn around and watch the sun, before it goes down completely. Let’s smile again,” he wrote.
What Toby Fox said about ‘Chapter 6’ and beyond
Fox also used the moment to update fans on what comes next, and the news was upbeat.
He said development on the next chapter is ahead of schedule, adding that “it’s not unrealistic that some staff members may start working on Chapter 7 before the end of the year.”
That pace is a big deal for a series with a history of long gaps between releases. Deltarune began as a free download back in 2018, and fans have grown used to waiting years between chapters, so any hint of momentum tends to land well with the community.
He has historically been cautious about firm release promises, which makes the upbeat tone around future chapters stand out.
Fans treated it as a rare signal that the project is moving faster behind the scenes than its public pace suggests.
With Chapter 5 now out, attention turns straight to Chapter 6 and the slow march toward a complete game. If Fox holds to that quicker pace, the wait between the remaining chapters could finally shrink, and the next progress update is what fans will be watching for.
