Xbox Game Pass 2027 changes rumoured to add ads tier

Xbox Game Pass 2027 changes are rumoured to bring an ad-supported tier, a cheaper ad-free plan and the end of day-one releases on the service.

Add as a preferred source on Google

Xbox Game Pass 2027 changes surfaced in a rumour published on Tuesday, 15 September 2026, describing an ad-supported subscription tier and a cheaper ad-free option that drops day-one releases.

None of it is official. Microsoft has announced nothing, and the claims come from a ResetEra forum moderator known as Slayven, citing an unnamed source with an accurate record on past Game Pass changes, as reported by TwistedVoxel.

What the rumoured Xbox Game Pass 2027 changes would cost

The rumour describes two core tiers. An ad-supported plan would sit at $12.99 a month in US dollars, while an ad-free plan would run $19.99 monthly or $239.99 annually.

The ad-free figure is a $3 monthly reduction on the current price, which is the unusual part.

Ad-supported tiers are standard in streaming video now, where cheaper plans carrying commercials grow subscriber numbers without gutting revenue per user.

Games raise a question video never had to answer, which is where the adverts actually sit: around the dashboard, inside a launch screen, or somewhere less welcome.

Price cuts do not happen for free. That reduction is reportedly tied to new games no longer arriving on Game Pass on launch day, a change said to begin somewhere between February and April 2027. Subscribers would pay less and wait longer for the headline releases.

Day one is the whole pitch for a lot of subscribers. Recent additions have leaned on exactly that, from Mavrix arriving on the service at release to Gears of War: Reloaded landing on the Premium tier.

How the rumoured Game Pass 2027 changes unbundle everything

The rest of the rumour is a breakup. Cloud streaming would be pulled out as a $5.99 monthly add-on giving 25 hours of access, and online multiplayer would become its own $10.99 subscription, or $14.99 bundled with the game library.

A family plan would cost a further $5.99 a month.

Unbundling is the term for this, meaning a single subscription broken into pieces that are each priced separately. Done well it lets people pay only for what they use. Done badly it raises the total bill for anyone who wants the same things they already had.

There is a commercial logic behind the shape of it. Xbox has been through a restructuring in 2026, with job cuts and a studio reset under Asha Sharma , and day-one first-party releases are the most expensive promise Game Pass makes.

Removing that promise makes the maths easier.

When the Xbox Game Pass 2027 changes would land

Rumoured pricing has a habit of changing before it reaches a store page, and a forum post is a long way from a Microsoft store listing.

The company usually saves subscription announcements for its own broadcasts, so the February to April 2027 window in the rumour is the first place to watch for an official word.
